Tottenham condemn ‘abhorrent homophobic chanting’ by fans at Manchester United game

Tottenham Hotspur say they will take the “strongest possible action” over “abhorrent homophobic chanting” during Sunday’s win at Manchester United.

The chanting was heard as Spurs outclassed a 10-man United side to win 3-0 at Old Trafford.

In a statement, Tottenham condemned the chanting.

“This is simply unacceptable, hugely offensive and no way to show support for the team,” the club said.

“The club will be working closely with the police and stewards to identify anyone instigating or joining in with the chanting – we shall take the strongest possible action in accordance with our sanctions and banning policy.”

Spurs added: “We all have a responsibility to act as ambassadors of Tottenham Hotspur and discrimination of any kind has no place at our club.”

Tottenham reminded supporters they can report incidents directly to them and that the club will continue its work with their LGBTQ+ supporters’ association, Proud Lilywhites.

“We’re all Spurs fans just like you,” Proud Lilywhites said on X. “When you sing these songs, you’re telling us we don’t belong; and we do, as much as you do.”
