NEW DELHI: Several schools in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, received bomb threats on Friday through email for the second day in a row. Trichy City police issued a warning against the bomb threat and a bomb squad was sent to the spot.
As per Trichy police, a day before on Thursday too, a similar bomb threat was sent to nine educational institutions received via email.The mail claimed that bombs had been planted on their premises, however after multiple teams began investigation and preliminary inquiries were completed, the threat turned out to be a hoax.
The institutions that received the threats are St Joseph’s College, Holy Cross College, Manapparai Campion School, Sammath School, Arcot School, Acharya School, Kampan School, St Anne’s School and Rajam Public School.
The mail threats were identified from a lady named Swetha Balakrishnan, the police however, suspect that this is a fake id.
The cyber cell of the Tamil Nadu police informed that an investigation is underway to find out about the sender and track the Internet Protocol address of the sender to ascertain their identity.
This marks the third bomb threat reported at schools in Tamil Nadu recently. A threat was made against Indian Public School in Erode, affecting its campuses in Salem, Trichy, and Tirunelveli. Additionally, four schools in Madurai received similar threats on September 30.
A few months ago similar cases occurred in schools in Chennai in February 2024 but later found it was also a hoax.
