NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli narrowly avoided a run-out after a miscommunication with Rishabh Pant during the fourth day’s play of the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday.
The close call occurred when Kohli got an inside edge off Khaled Ahmed while attempting a drive. Pant called for a single, prompting Kohli to start running, but he quickly retreated upon sensing danger, leaving him far from the crease.
Fortunately for India, Khaled missed the opportunity to complete the run-out.Realizing his mistake, Pant immediately walked over to Kohli and embraced him. Captain Rohit Sharma’s reaction, filled with disbelief, was also caught on camera.
Forceful half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul propelled India to declare their first innings at 285 for nine, giving them a 52-run lead. Earlier, Bangladesh were bowled out for 233 in their first innings.
Jaiswal smashed 72 off 52 balls, while Rahul contributed a blistering 68 off 43 balls, both delivering aggressive knocks to strengthen India’s position.
Virat Kohli also played a fluent innings, scoring 47 off 35 balls.
For Bangladesh, veteran left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan took 4/78, while off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed 4/41.
