The retention rules for the Indian Premier League (IPL) are expected to be revealed soon after the tournament’s Governing Council (GC) meets on Saturday in Bengaluru, according to a report on Cricbuzz.
“A formal decision is expected to be taken in the next few hours,” said the report, adding that the official retention rules will be known by Sunday, if not on Saturday itself.
Sources have told Cricbuzz that “it was a last minute decision to call for the IPL GC on Saturday as the notices for the meeting were sent only on Friday evening to the members”.
There is also a possibility that before a formal announcement, the retention rules are presented at the general body meeting scheduled for Sunday.
The mega IPL auction is likely to be held in the Middle East towards the end of November. A decision on its date may also be made at the GC meet.
“There is intense speculation over the retention, with the numbers ranging between 2 to 8. The BCCI might settle at a number somewhere in the middle, 5-6, including the RTM (Right to Match) option,” the report added.
