In West Bengal hospital, 9 twin pairs born in 24 hrs

In an extraordinary occurrence, nine women gave birth to twins within a 24-hour period – from 8am Tuesday to 8am Wednesday – at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital in Bengal. None of the pregnancies was conceived by assisted reproductive technology, reports Mohammad Asif. Of the 18 newborns, seven are male and 11 female. All the mothers and the babies are in stable condition, even though six of the newborns, weighing around 1.5 kg each, have been kept at the Sick Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) for observation.
