Former One direction singer Liam Payne dies in hotel balcony fall

Liam Payne, the former member of One Direction, has died aged 31 in Argentina, police say.

Police said he fell from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, according to AFP news agency and local media.

Earlier this month, he had attended the Argentina concert of his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan.

Payne was part of the much-loved boyband, along with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik.

The pop act first appeared on ITV talent show The X Factor in 2010 and went on to become one of the biggest-selling boy bands, breaking streaming records in August 2015.

One Direction announced they were going on hiatus in 2015, with the members of the group going to work on individual projects after releasing their fifth studio album.

Payne went on to release his debut album, LP1, in December 2019.
