JAIPUR: A 10-year-old male tiger, identified as T-86, was allegedly killed in a retaliatory act after it attacked and killed a 45-year-old resident of Uliyana village near Ranthambore National Park (RNP) in Rajasthan on Saturday.
The attack by the tiger led to angry protests, with villagers marching with the man’s body and blocking the road towards RNP. They later withdrew the agitation following talks with the state govt. Preliminary reports suggest that enraged villagers gathered around the tiger, attacking it with stones and axes. The state forest department had not recovered the tiger’s body till late on Sunday evening.
A retired senior official said the incident reflects serious monitoring gaps in the local forest administration, calling for a red alert to protect other tigers in the area. The protest concluded after Rajasthan agriculture minister Kirori Lal Meena mediated an agreement on various demands.
